TOXICOLOGIC PATHOLOGY COURSE

SHORT COURSE ON TOXICOLOGIC PATHOLOGY IN FISH

This course took place the first time in 2013 at the Centre for Fish and Wildlife Health (FIWI) of the University of Bern, Switzerland. Originally it was planned as a singular event, but the response to this course was so positive that we decided to make it an annual event. The second course in 2014 took place at the Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture (CEFAS), Weymouth Laboratory, UK. This was followed by a third course in 2015, again at Bern, and by the fourth course in 2016 at Heidelberg University. Now, in 2017, the course is back to Bern.

The course aims to introduce the participants to some basic principles of toxicopathology with fish, to discuss technical aspects including potential pitfalls in histopathological studies, as well as to highlight potential fields of application of fish toxicopathology in environmental sciences. During the course, the participants will take part in interactive lectures, practical sessions, and discussions.  Through the interactive structure, both researchers with still limited experience in histopathology and advanced pathologists will benefit. Importantly, the course is also intended for networking, to get in contact with other scientists using and applying fish toxicopathology.
