The University of Stirling invites applications for a newly established Chair of Virology in the Institute of Aquaculture associated with funding from the Marine Alliance for Science & Technology, Scotland (MASTS).

 

The University seeks to appoint a scientist of the highest international standing to increase the research momentum in virology of the Institute of Aquaculture.  The appointee should have a distinguished research record in virology, and will be expected to participate in the research involving fish diseases within the Institute and the MASTS consortium.

 

It is expected that the appointee will provide inspiring academic leadership and enhance the international research standing of the Institute.

The appointee must have an established track record of publication in prestigious journals, and have demonstrated the ability to acquire substantial research funding.

 

This post is full time on 5 year fixed term basis, in the first instance.

 

The appointee will be expected to develop and lead a strong research group and to form productive collaborations with MASTS.

Post doc position at Stony Brook University, USA

A 2-yr post-doctoral position is available in our group to participate in an active research program that addresses basic and applied aspects of marine diseases, including biological bases of animal resistance to infectious diseases.

Required Qualifications: Ph.D., D.V.M. or equivalent foreign degree. Extensive training in cell or molecular biology techniques.

Preferred Qualifications: Ph.D. or equivalent in aquatic animal diseases. Experience working with finfish or shellfish. Experience with molecular diagnostics of diseases and functional geonomics techniques. Preference will be given to candidates demonstrating creativity in aquatic disease research (innovative research, development of diagnostic tools, implementation of modern molecular technologies, etc.).
