Council elections

Voting for the post of EAFP President will take place via the internet from 1 -31 July and details of your 'unique code' will be enclosed with the bulletin 33 (3).   The nominees for President are Jose Garcia and Sven Bergman

José A. Garcia

I graduated from Veterinary Faculty of Universidad Complutense de Madrid in 1987. My principle research is on the pathogenesis and diagnosis of bacterial fish diseases, but I have also worked on macrophage response, and different aspects of viral diseases. At present I am lecturer at the Department of Animal Health at Madrid Veterinary Faculty. I have been a member of the EAFP since 1997 and have always been committed to its aims as a global association of scientists and other professionals dedicated to improving aquatic animal health worldwide. It was for this reason that I put myself forward for the position of Meetings Secretary which I have occupied since 2009. The experience as Council Member of the EAFP has been enjoyable and a real privilege. I very much would like to continue my involvement in the organisation of the EAFP and my experience on the Council places me in the position to take on the role of President. I believe the EAFP has much more to offer and should I be successful I would see it as a key aim to ensure that the EAFP continues to develop, attracting new members to an increasingly dynamic association focussing on the needs of fish health professionals, the aquaculture industry and in helping the development of scientific expertise for student members and others with more experience! I hope that I get the chance to lead the EAFP in its ambition to fulfil these aims.

Sven Bergman

In my role as treasurer of the society for the past 8 years I have had the chance to gain deeper insights into the structure, work and effectiveness of the EAFP. In addition to my duties as treasurer, I have also been given the opportunity to work on other EAFP issues assisting the officers in the council. Based on this knowledge and experience I feel well prepared to accept other responsibilities for the EAFP. My wish is to further promote the positive development of the EAFP of the past few years, always in close cooperation with the council, profiting from the experiences of all council officers, guided by the general assembly. My main goals will be to continue the successful development of the EAFP, to stabilize and increase its number of members putting the main focus on the recruitment of students, trainees and graduates, and to increase the attractiveness of the EAFP by granting awards and promoting the use of digital media. Therefore, I would be glad and proud to serve for the next four years as president of the EAFP.

Results will be announced before the September Conference.

Council elections

We would like to invite nominations from EAFP members for the following posts on the EAFP Council effective from September 2011; vice president, publications officer and general secretary. The duties of the council officers are described in the EAFP Statutes.

The current vice president David Bruno (UK) is retiring after his second period in office. The publications officer Roy Palmer (Ireland) and the general secretary Lone Madsen (Denmark) are both willing to stand for election for a second term of 4 years.

Each nomination should contain the proposer's name for the particular post and seconded by another member, together with a note from the individual person stating they are willing to stand for election. Potential candidates should feel free to discuss the current duties with a member of the council.

Nomiations are now CLOSED

If necessary, voting will take place via the EAFP message board. Results will be announced before the September conference.
